Course: A0844

Long Pre-TPS Course (6 weeks)

Introduction

A full graduate course at a recognised test pilot school is an important qualification for potential test pilots and flight test engineers, and also represents a significant investment on the part of the sponsoring organisation. Many students can benefit immensely by spending a short period of time on a preparatory course which refreshes the basic academic skills necessary to do well on the full TPS course. Students who have been out of the classroom for some time, or students without conventional academic qualifications find a pre-TPS course especially helpful.

The course aims to main components of an undergraduate engineering degree scheme which are relevant to the topics covered at TPS, including engineering mathematics, physical sciences, and aeronautical subjects such as performance, stability and control. Students going on to attend a UK test pilot school can also study aviation law and R/T procedures, taking the CAA exams if required.

The pre-TPS course is run in Swindon, Wiltshire, which is less than 30 miles from Boscombe Down, home of ETPS. Hence it is an ideal opportunity for overseas students to spend some time in the local area, able to concentrate fully on their studies before their families arrive in the UK for the beginning of the TPS course.

Please don't just take our word for it! This is what the test pilot schools have to say about pre-course training:

ETPS
"Students ... who are academically weak may find great difficulty in coping with the course and we strongly recommend such pre-course training as a way of reducing risk."
NTPS
"Many pilots and engineers selected to attend flight test schools have not had the opportunity for many years to exercise the academic skills learned in school. Recognising this ... the objectives are to prepare the students academically in the basic concepts of mathematics, physics, aerodynamics, aircraft performance and stability and control ..."

Who Should Attend

Student test pilots and flight test engineers prior to starting a full 12-month TPS course. Particularly beneficial to students who have been away from the classroom for some years, or who lack conventional academic qualifications.

Benefits

At the end of the course, students will have the necessary academic background in the fundamental engineering subjects to tackle the syllabus of a full TPS course.

Course Contents

Course includes 210 hours classroom tuition on the following subjects:
